Curri
Spice up your CV
A few years ago, I was looking for a new job. I hadn’t really been in that position for a long time, so needless to say – I needed to update my CV. I realized, after just one glance at my previous CV, that this document was extremely boring. Not because of my merits, education or experience. But mainly, the layout, font choice and lack of color made ME, the applicant, seem extremely boring too. I am a creative, colorful and design-driven person, but my CV completely failed to convey this. Furthermore, the way it was written wasn’t very user-friendly. The flow of the text and the different sections could definitely be improved, and become more appealing to anyone who read it.
So, as the UX -genius and layout master that I am (bragging much?) I redesigned my own CV in the style of an info-graphic and then applied to a few positions to test it out. Suddenly, I got more responses. I wasn’t necessarily offered all the positions I applied for, but the response rate was definitely higher than before. When I was asked to come to interviews, they complimented me on my CV – saying it looked good and stood out from the rest of the applicants.
A few months later I had secured a job as a digital communicator at Viron Media. A friend of mine got in touch and wondered if I could help her with designing her CV. A few years later, I had designed about 10-15 CV’s for friends and family, but also for complete strangers who had heard of my services. Over time, however, I felt like there should be an online service for people who wanted to “spice up” their CV, and thus the idea of CURRI was born.
The way I would describe Curri is a drag and drop CV builder. The user can, much like a WordPress site, add blocks or modules to their CV, choose from themes or create their own theme. The service then offers printable versions, folders etc., as well as digital storage and link sharing. The site would also include tips and tricks for creating a good CV and for applying for jobs. Another idea was to be able to connect this platform to different companies, and their recruitment processes.
Together with my partner, (who is a full-stack developer), we started to sketch out and develop the basics for this kind of platform. However, since it is a free-time project, it is sadly not yet finished. Maybe, some day we will have it up and running.
Here are some of the sketches that were made for the site.
